THE ISSUE
“We need to stop dividing women into their body parts and understand that women’s health includes conditions that affect their entire body over the course of their life.”
Dr. Anna Bode
Principal, Kearney Healthcare
“We are lagging in implementing risk prevention guidelines for women… A lot of women are being told to just watch their cholesterol levels and see their doctor in a year. That's a year of delayed care.”
Dr. Angela Lundberg Primary Care Physician
“When women need treatment for heart conditions… we are assuming we are providing the best care based on data from men.”
Dr. Laxmi Mehta
Director, Women's Cardiovascular Health, Ohio State
“[Women] are busy working your job and taking care of your kids…and it’s physically more challenging to set aside time to participate in research studies… studies have really focused on men’s health and not thought about the ways that it might be different for women.”
Dr. Kathryn Lindley
MD, FACC, Vanderbilt University
Unheard Women is a call to reimagine medicine through the lens of equity. By weaving together history, science, and deeply personal narratives, the film urges viewers to confront uncomfortable truths—and join a growing movement that refuses to accept a healthcare system that listens to some and silences others. Through awareness, empathy, and action, we can help rewrite the future of women’s health.
Today, the consequences of this history are written in the lives of women everywhere. Through vivid cinematography and unflinching personal interviews, Unheard Women lays bare the ongoing disparities in diagnosis, treatment, and care. We follow women who were dismissed, misdiagnosed, or left in pain for years—especially in cases of heart disease, endometriosis, and autoimmune disorders. Their stories are harrowing and all too common.
Doctors told them their pain was "normal." Test results were deemed “inconclusive.” Symptoms didn’t fit the textbook—because the textbook didn’t include women.
Alongside these lived experiences, the film introduces us to the researchers and reformers on the front lines of change: clinicians reimagining how trials are designed, biotech startups focused on female biology, and activists building powerful coalitions for gender equity in medicine.
Unheard Women is not just an exposé—it’s a reckoning. And yet, it is also a story of resilience. Women are not only demanding better care—they are reshaping the system from within. The film closes with a vision of hope: new models of inclusive research, community-driven advocacy, and a future where women’s health is finally treated with scientific rigor, compassion, and respect.
